The Listeria recall of vegetables expands to 47 million pounds of frozen chicken and meat products that include veggies.
The not-ready-to-eat meat and poultry products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes have been recalled from Costco, Trader Joe’s and other stores, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced.
This action is being taken in cooperation with the Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration because the recalled products contain vegetables that are part of the recent CRF Frozen Foods recall. The recall does not involved any meats sold alone, without the vegetables.
In this latest recall, the heat-treated, not-fully-cooked, not-shelf-stable meat and poultry items were produced by Ajinomoto Windsor, Inc. on various dates between May 1, 2014 and May 1, 2016.
Other than Trader Joe’s, the company said it didn’t have a list of stores that sell the product, although a Fortune magazine report said Costco was one of the stores.
Trader Joe’s said in a statement that the expanding product recalls related to Listeria have been limited to a vendor’s frozen vegetables and that all potentially affected products have been removed from its store shelves and destroyed.
