The male plaintiff contented that the defendant negligently failed to provide adequate security and negligently served the assailant while he was visibly intoxicated. The plaintiff contended that, as a result, the inebriated assailant attacked him with a knife.
The plaintiff maintained that he suffered one stab wound to the back and three to the abdomen, suffering perforations to the bowel, diaphragm and a transection of the epigastric artery. A jury awarded the plaintiff with a verdict of $3.71 million.
