Worksite Accident: The estate of a man from Passaic County accepted a total of $1,125,000 after recently receiving an additional $375,000 in April of 2013. The Franklin Lakes resident was working on a car raised on a lift and as he was trying to lower the vehicle, the hydraulic controls failed. The car slid out of its casings and fell on the plaintiff, who suffered a broken pelvis and internal bleeding for nine hours until he died of cardiac arrest. The estate settled for $750,000 in February of 2013 with the defendant property-owner of the auto repair shop. It was alleged that the lift was defectively designed, which caused the bolts to break and the fatality to occur.
